Millner: New budget shouldn’t reprise Blagojevich-era ideas |
|
SPRINGFIELD,
Ill.
-- State Senator John Millner (R-Carol Stream) said the Governor's proposal for
the largest tax increase in
Illinois
history and raiding the state's pension funds ignores other alternative avenues
to solve the state's budget crisis.
"We're facing a tremendous problem with the state's finances and the first
instinct shouldn't be to burden the taxpayers in the midst of a
recession," Sen. Millner said. "We need to take a comprehensive look
at prioritizing spending, saying 'no' to any new programs and reducing
costs."

Sen. Millner moves DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office agenda forward |
|
SPRINGFIELD,
Ill.
– State Senator John Millner (R-Carol Stream) passed several bills out of the
Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal Law to advance the legislative agenda of
the
DuPage
County
State’s
Attorney’s Office.
“I’m always happy to help craft good public policy to assist
state’s attorneys and our law enforcement,” Sen. Millner said. “I’ve enjoyed
working with State’s Attorney Joe Birkett to assist him with his and other
state’s attorney’s offices’ to provide them with the tools they need to perform
their jobs more effectively and make our communities safer.”
Birkett testified in the committee as a proponent for the
bills sponsored by Sen. Millner and all passed with bi-partisan support.
“These bills are necessary and common sense,” Sen. Millner
said. “Bills such as SB 1813 would allow our police officers to use their
in-car cameras to record felonies in progress. Right now police officers cannot
record anything except traffic violations and it’s frustrating for them.”

Millner calls for special election to fill U.S. Senate seat |
|
SPRINGFIELD,
Ill. – State Senator John Millner
(R-Carol Stream) advocated his support for a special election to fill President
Barack Obama's vacant U.S. Senate seat on Thursday.
Sen. Millner said that because of recent events, the
Illinois General Assembly should move forward to let voters decide on a
permanent replacement for the office.
"Gov. Blagojevich's appointment of Roland Burris was a
temporary appointment, according to the U.S. Constitution and Illinois election law," Sen. Millner said.
"The legislature can, and should, create a special election to let the people
of Illinois decide who they believe should
represent them in Washington,
D.C."
